In 1968, Doug Engelbart presented a demo that would bring together a decade of his work and set the stage for computing for years to come. He would wow the crowd with demonstrations of the computer mouse, an early predecessor of the Internet, word processors, and video conferencing — all technologies that would not become mainstream for decades.

Engelbart’s family announced his death this week, but his early demonstration remains amazingly prescient.
