We already knew that Massachusetts has one of the nation’s fastest-growing tech sectors, and now we have some more evidence to prove it. Dice.com, a career site for technology professionals, mined Bureau of Labor Statistics data and found that the Bay State ranked second in the country for technology job growth during the first half of this year.
Massachusetts created 2,600 tech jobs between January and June, adding 4 percent to the industry’s labor force. That’s a higher growth rate than during the same period last year.
New Jersey was the runaway winner, with a 5.2 percent increase and 3,600 new positions. Missouri, Texas and New York rounded out the top five.
Based on the number of tech job openings in Metro Boston, Massachusetts’ growth spurt appears likely to continue. Boston ranks sixth among US cities in total positions available on Dice.com, with 3,074. Only New York, Washington/Baltimore, Silicon Valley, Chicago and Los Angeles have more openings right now.Callum Borchers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
