Robert Half survey: Tech hiring on the rise in the Hub

A new survey from Robert Half Technology found that 80 percent of Boston-area chief information officers plan to hire information-technology professionals during the first six months of 2014.

Those hires will be to either add to head count or to fill vacant positions, said Robert Half Technology, a staffing firm that provides of technology professionals for initiatives ranging from Web development and multiplatform systems integration to network security and technical support.

“Skilled IT professionals are in high demand in Boston, and companies truly have to compete to attract and retain top talent,” Kristen Johnson, Boston regional vice president of Robert Half Technology, said in a statement. “Many companies are planning for a strong start to the year and are looking for IT professionals to help in the areas of applications development and database management, in particular.”

The 2014 hiring projections are based on interviews with 100 CIOs who were asked to provide a six-month hiring outlook, Robert Half Technology said.

The firm said that it has been tracking IT hiring activity in the US since 1995.
