NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street after a strong report on retail sales.

The Commerce Department says retail sales rose 1.1 percent last month after a 1.2 percent increase in August. Those are the largest gains since October 2010 and could reflect growing confidence in the economy.

Just after the opening bell on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average is up 26 points at 13,355. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is up three at 1,431. And the Nasdaq composite index is up 10 at 3,054.
