U.S. stock indexes rose Thursday, pushing the Standard & Poor’s 500 index to its highest close in five years. The stock market got a lift from reports suggesting the outlook for economic growth around the world may be improving.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 80.71 points, or 0.6 percent, to 13,471.22
The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 11.10, or 0.8 percent, to 1,472.12.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 15.95, or 0.5 percent, to 3,121.76.
For the week:
The Dow is up 36.01 points, or 0.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 5.65, or 0.4 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 20.10, or 0.7 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 367.08 points, or 2.8 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 45.93, or 3.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 102.25, or 3.4 percent.
