How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Tuesday
U.S. stocks edged mostly higher Tuesday after a rally by retailers helped the major indexes reverse early losses. The Standard and Poor’s 500 index reached a five-year high.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 27.57 points, or 0.2 percent, to 13,534.89.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 1.66 points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,472.34.
The Nasdaq composite index fell 6.72 points, or 0.2 percent, to 3,110.78.
For the week:
The Dow is up 46.46 points, or 0.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 0.29 points, or 0.02 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 14.85 points, or 0.5 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 430.75 points, or 3.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 46.15, or 3.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 91.27, or 3 percent.
