Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, the nation’s largest mall owner, said it will spin off its strip centers and smaller enclosed malls into an independent, publicly traded company. The new company, a real estate investment trust called SpinCo, will have its own management and board. The move will allow Simon to focus on its global portfolio of larger malls and outlet centers.
