Bed Bath & Beyond was among the retail chains that cut their expectations for their fiscal fourth quarter, which includes the critical holiday shopping season. It projected earnings of $1.60 to $1.67 a share, less than the $1.79 that analysts expected. The holiday season was challenging as many shoppers still were contending with the shaky economic recovery. Snow also kept some shoppers home. And the season was six days shorter.
