Shares of Simon Property Group Inc. rose after the mall owner posted fourth-quarter results, with funds from operations, a key measure, jumping 7.9 percent from a year earlier and US occupancy rates rising to 96.1 percent. Simon also saw sales per square foot at its properties rise to $582 last year from $568 in 2012, while base rent per square foot rose 4 percent, or $40.73 to $42.34, from year-end 2012 to 2013. Among Mass. shopping areas, Simon owns Auburn Mall, South Shore Plaza, and Copley Place.
