Atlas Air Worldwide saw its steepest intraday slump since December 2008 after the biggest US carrier of airline freight said it plans to offer 5.25 million shares. But investors soured on the news even though the Purchase, N.Y., firm said it plans to use the proceeds for general needs, including acquisitions. Earlier, Atlas reported higher third-quarter profit, helped by strong demand and lower costs.
