Newell Rubbermaid, the maker of storage containers, Sharpie pens, and Calphalon cookware, said cost-control efforts and its decision to stop making some less-profitable products helped push its third-quarter profit higher as sales declined. The company also lifted its full-year outlook. Newell earned $85.5 million, or 28 cents per share, in the period. But sales fell 18 percent, sinking the stock.![]()
