Some media stocks gained - Gannett Co., publisher of USA Today, turned in the biggest advance on the S&P 500 - on signs advertising may pick up. The New York Times Co. said the print advertising market has improved modestly; its shares rose 1.2 percent. McClatchy Co., owner of The Miami Herald and other newspapers, echoed the thought; it gained 14.9 percent. Meredith Corp., publisher of Better Homes and Gardens, boosted its quarterly profit forecast, and its stock was up 2.5 percent in after-hours trading.![]()
