Billerica-based American Science & Engineering said it received a $6.7 million order for its X-ray detection technology that will be used by the US government for counterterrorism missions. The company said the order is for ruggedized versions of its Z Backscatter Van system, which is used for screening vehicles for car and truck bombs. AS&E said this latest order brings the total funded amount to $40.7 million with a potential value of up to $48.8 million. “We are proud to support the US government’s mission overseas for high risk counterterrorism operations, and we are very grateful for the repeat business from this key customer,’’ said AS&E president and chief executive Anthony Fabiano.
