Indexes rose as higher-than-estimated data on consumer confidence and manufacturing bolstered optimism about the economy. Merck and DuPont led gains along with brokerage Charles Schwab, which reported earnings and sales that exceeded estimates. Google tumbled 8.26 percent, the most since 2008, after earnings trailed projections as costs jumped.
