The Tempe, Ariz., company reported record revenue of about $70 million in its latest quarter, a 62 percent increase from a year earlier, but its shares plunged nevertheless. Amtech makes parts for solar cells, LEDs, and semiconductor chips used in computers, cars, and other consumer goods. Chief executive J.S. Whang did not detail the reasons behind the revenue growth, except to say it “demonstrates our operational capability to manage and service the high growth cycles of the solar market.’’ The markets for solar cells and semiconductors are given to big fluctuations. Analyst Howard Halpern of Taglich Brothers said that, on balance, Amtech’s numbers were “great.’’![]()
