Sales are surging at Winn-Dixie Stores Inc.’s supermarkets, says a Jefferies & Co. analyst, Scott Mushkin. Shoppers are becoming more willing to spend, particularly on discretionary goods and items they are trading up to buy, according to his survey. He said execution at Winn-Dixies has steadily improved, and Gulf Coast stores that were exposed to economic ripples from the oil spill last year are doing well.
