The third-largest mobile-phone carrier’s quarterly loss widened to $847 million. Sprint lost 101,000 customers on monthly contracts after losing 114,000 in the previous quarter. It’s promoting handsets such as the Evo to compete with AT&T and Verizon Wireless, which carry the iPhone. Verizon added 1.3 million contract subscribers last quarter; AT&T pulled in 331,000.
