American Superconductor turns higher

American Superconductor Corp. cut its workforce and its yearly expenses on expectations that it will post a “significant loss’’ for the quarter just ended, citing the loss of its largest customer. But shares jumped as investors felt the customer, Chinese wind turbine maker Sinovel Wind Group Co., will likely return soon, said an analyst at Wunderlich Securities. Between now and the end of September, the analyst expects Sinovel’s inventory will reach the point where it needs to reorder from American Superconductor, which will lead to a restoration of revenue.
