It was hard to put a good face on the news: Estee Lauder Cos., the maker of Clinique and Bobbi Brown makeup lines, forecast adjusted 2012 earnings to be no more than $4.20 a share, below the average analyst estimate of $4.35. Fourth-quarter net income rose 72 percent, but the company’s outlook for the new fiscal year disappointed investors. The stock suffered the biggest decline in the S&P 500.
