The S&P 500 added a few points for a second day. Two big French banks reassured investors about their health, and Italy confirmed China might buy Italian bonds. All of the gains came in the last 15 minutes in a burst of buying. But a weak reading of business sentiment by the National Federation of Independent Business kept the gains in check.
