United Technologies Corp. of Hartford will buy Goodrich Corp. for $16.5 billion, adding a maker of aircraft landing gear to take advantage of a surge in plane orders. United Technologies also owns Pratt & Whitney jet engines. The company plans to fold Goodrich into UTC Aerospace Systems, based in Goodrich’s hometown of Charlotte, N.C.
