Boston Scientific gets nod from FDA

Boston Scientific Corp. said the FDA approved several new implantable heart devices the Natick-based company developed. The devices include Incept and Punctua, which are implantable cardioverter defibrillators used to treat rapid heartbeats. Shares fell Friday after a report indicating Medicare won’t pay for hospital stays in 11 states for heart and orthopedic procedures until the treatment is reviewed. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services will require prepayment audits on hospital stays for cardiac care, joint replacements, and spinal fusion procedures, according to the American College of Cardiology in a letter to members.
