As for the crane damaged during Superstorm Sandy, officials believe wind gusts estimated at 80 to 100 mph played a major role but continue to look into the incident. It forced the evacuations of a hotel and other neighboring buildings during the Oct. 29 storm as engineers scaled 74 windblown stories to make sure the crane wasn’t in danger of falling. No one was injured.
Residents were allowed to return Nov. 4 after the boom was secured.
