The Massachusetts economy added 7,500 jobs in August, up from a revised loss of 300 jobs in July, as the state’s unemployment rate held steady at 7.2 percent, the state’s Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said in a Thursday report.

The current US unemployment rate is 7.3 percent. As for Massachusetts, the number of jobs added in August is the biggest number since January, and the August number follows two months of job losses.

For August, the private sector of the Massachusetts economy added 6,700 jobs with such sectors as education and health services, leisure and hospitality, construction, and financial services showing gains, the state report said.

The economy has been stagnating from steep federal budget cuts and a slowing global economy, analysts have said.
