Newman’s Own Inc., the food-and-beverage company founded by actor Paul Newman in 1982, said that its new Greek nonfat yogurt line is now hitting store shelves of supermarkets in the Greater Boston area.
The Boston market is where Connecticut-based Newman’s Own has first launched all of its products, the company said.
The five varieties of Newman’s Own Greek Nonfat Yogurt are blueberry, pineapple, strawberry, peach, and black cherry. The yogurt is available in a 5.3 oz. size and carries a suggested retail price of $1.49. Stop & Shop, Hannaford, Shaw’s, and Price Chopper have agreed to carry the line, the company said.
All after-tax profits and royalties from the sale of Newman’s Own products have gone to charity --- more than $400 million to date, the company said.
Locally, the Newman’s Own Foundation has supported such programs as Breakfast in the Classroom in five Boston schools, ChildObesity 180 through Tufts University, Fisher House Boston, and Boys & Girls Clubs.
Commenting on the new product line in a statement, Newman’s Own vice president Dave Best said, “It gives consumers a great-tasting, healthy option while supporting our philanthropic mission and contributing to the common good.”Chris Reidy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
