The pizza that many fans and pie aficionados call America’s best may be coming to Boston.

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is eyeing real estate in Boston and advertising to hire local managers, a spokeswoman for the company said Friday.

The New Haven, Conn., pizza institution, commonly known as Pepe’s, is famous for mouth-watering thin crust pies baked in coal-fired brick ovens. The pizzas are recognized by many publications, from Zagat to Food & Wine, as among the greatest in the land.

The yet-to-be determined Boston locations would be the company’s first outside its seven Connecticut stores and single Yonkers, N.Y., restaurant.

Speculation about Pepe’s arrival was sparked by a recent Craigslist ad seeking managers for multiple Boston locations under the headline of “Pepe’s pizza coming to Boston.”
