Bain Capital agrees to buy Brazilian company that provides health and dental plans

The Boston-based investment firm Bain Capital said Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire Grupo Notre Dame Intermedica, a Brazilian company that provides health and dental plans, as part of Bain’s strategy to build its presence in Latin America in general and in Brazil in particular.

Bain Capital said it is buying the company from its founder, Paulo Barbanti. Financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed. Grupo Notre Dame Intermedica provides health care services to more than 7,000 companies and 3 million people.

In a statement, Devin O’Reilly, a Bain Capital managing director, noted that the firm has invested in more than 50 health care companies including HCA, Warner Chilcott, and Quintiles.

“We will look to leverage this experience to continue to help Intermedica grow and provide high quality service to its customers,” O’Reilly said.
