Once upon a time, some referred to it as Secretaries Day. In this more enlightened age, it’s now also known as National Administrative Professionals’ Day, which this year falls on April 23.

But by whatever name, Staples Inc. wants to alert all bosses that the Framingham-based office supply giant offers “an assortment of great gift ideas for your admin” --- gifts that say thank you for workplace service above and beyond the call of duty.

These ideas include a “complete makeover for their desktop with Poppin office supplies, a Staples $50 eGift card with a free personalized mug,” and bonded leather manager chairs, Staples said in a press release.

To salute April 23 as a workplace red-letter day, Staples undertook a survey to check attitudes about admins.

One survey finding: “A majority of respondents say the admin boosts employee morale and is a better team player than the boss.”

The survey was conducted via SurveyMonkey, a provider of Web-based survey solutions, and launched via Staples Twitter handle on March 17. The survey closed March 31, and it received 613 responses, Staples said.
