Massachusetts is giving up on trying to fix the state’s flawed health insurance website and will instead buy “an off-the-shelf product used by several other states to enroll residents in health plans,” the Boston Globe reported.

In case that product fails, state officials are simultaneously preparing to join the federal HealthCare.gov insurance marketplace, the Globe reported.

The state insurance system needs to be ready by Nov. 15 to allow customers to sign up for new health plans for 2015.

The state health insurance website has had problems since it launched in October requiring many to fill out paper applications and forcing tens of thousands of people to be enrolled in temporary insurance plans through the state’s Medicaid program, the Globe said.
