Mohegan Sun has reached a “surrounding community” agreement with Everett as it seeks to build a casino at Suffolk Downs in Revere, the Associated Press reports.
Under the terms of the deal, Mohegan Sun would pay the city $575,000 per year, pay for a $300,000 traffic study, and help promote Everett’s, uh, cultural and tourist attractions if it is awarded the sole Boston-area casino license in Massachusetts.
Everett now has its bases covered; it has a far more lucrative host community agreement in place should Wynn Resorts be awarded the opportunity to develop its casino in Everett. But if the state’s gaming board decides on Mohegan Sun, Everett will at least collect a consolation prize.
Provided either casino is ever built, that is.
