2 million baby bath seats recalled

bath seat recall.jpgAbout 2 million baby bathers made by Summer Infant and sold under the Mother’s Touch and Deluxe Baby Bathers brands are being recalled because their frames can fall apart - causing infants to fall out, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

At least seven incidents have been reported, five of which involved head injuries to infants, most under the age of 2 months.

The recalled infant bathers, which are used to seat infants when they are being given a bath in a sink or tub, They have a blue or pink plastic base that is 13 ½ inches 12 ½ inches. Mesh fabric is attached to the frames and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. You can find a list of model numbers being recalled here.

The Chinese-made seats were sold between September 2004 and November 2011 for $15-$30.

If you have one of the bathers being recalled, stop using it and contact Summer Infant for a repair kit with a strap that will lock the hinge that can come loose. The CPSC reminds parents and caregivers to never use the devices to lift and carry an infrant.
