Know the rules of the road

You should treat your bicycle like a car, according to the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition, or MassBike. That means you should ride with the flow of traffic and yield to car drivers on larger, busier streets. In general, pick the lane that's furthest to the right while still serving your needs. Exercise extra caution at intersections and around trucks.

Pass on left, but if you must pass on the right, be very careful and never passin an area where a driver could also turn right.
