Seven things college students don't need
A pricey, feature-saturated computer
Students who want to take their laptops to class can consider netbooks, which are small, light, inexpensive, and easily perform basic tasks like word processing and Web-surfing. The Associated Press recently recommended a few models starting at $300.
But netbooks are not for everyone: Students in engineering, computer science, architecture, and graphic design programs may need machines with more firepower. Check with the university before buying.
