3. Be clear on compensation
Upon resignation, talk openly with your manager – and if appropriate, human resources – about what your final compensation package will include. It's a good idea to consult your employee handbook before having this discussion, so you know what to expect going in.
Don't forget to inquire about unpaid vacation time (sick and personal days) and ask whether those will be paid out. Lastly, make sure you know how much time you have before benefits, such as health insurance, run out.
