Solution: Create a cleaning schedule
"My mother always told me, 'Leave the kitchen how you found it,'" Dowling said. "When I left [a mess] there, she would remind me that she's not a maid. The same goes for the office. You want to come in in the morning to a clean area, and leave it how you found it."
Set up a rotating schedule of teams responsible for keeping the kitchen tidy. People are less likely to leave a mess if they know they -- or their co-workers -- are specifically responsible for cleaning it up.
