Protect your social security number

You've probably heard it before. Don't carry your social security card around in your wallet or purse.

It's not only difficult to replace, but it's likely your single most important piece of identifying information. Leave it in a secure place, advises the Federal Trade Commission, and only carry the identification information you'll actually need when you go out.
