Look into expanded Stafford loans

If you don't qualify for Parent PLUS loans (you cannot be more than 90 days delinquent on a loan or in default on any federal debt to qualify), your child will be eligible for higher amounts of Stafford federal loans. Keep in mind that federal loans have benefits like low interest rates, flexible repayment plans, and built-in help for borrowers who have trouble with repayment.
