11. What to do about: Student loans

If someone opens a student loan in your name, report it in writing to the school that granted the loan, writes the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse. The school should then close the loan.

Also report the loan to the US Department of Education. The Inspector General's office can be reached at 800-647-8733.
