4. File a police report
Report the identity theft to your local police department or the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. Give them as much documented evidence of the theft as you have, and make sure the report lists the fraudulent accounts, advises the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
If your police department won't give you a report, try the state police. The US Postal Office or the Department of Motor Vehicles are also options if it was a theft of either nature.
