Want to retire early? Top tips for getting there

1. Know your number You can’t set an unmeasurable goal like 'retire early' and hope to get there. Spend some time now creating a detailed retirement budget and make sure it is realistic. If you are spending $10,000 a month currently, and you are only a few years away from retirement and still carrying a lot of debt, it is unrealistic to expect that you can get by on $4,000 per month once you are retired. Try to make your retirement budget as detailed as possible -- don't forget about the expenses that you might pay only quarterly or annually.
