Summer Reading List for Financial Improvement

Posted by Jamie Downey July 16, 2009 10:30 AM

With summer now in full swing, many of us will be spending some vacation time at the beach and / or in general leisure. This is my favorite time to catch up on some reading and reenergize my mind.

If you are looking to improve your finances, reading a few books and gleaning a few new ideas can make a lifelong difference. Most of the books I read are related to business and personal finance. Here are a few that I have read and believe are worth the investment of time (and the cost if they are not available at the library):

Dig Your Well Before You’re Thirsty – Harvey Mackay
Lead the Field – Earl Nightingale (also consider the audiobook during your commute)
The Little Red Book of Sales – Jeff Gitomer
The Little Book of Common Sense Investing – John Bogle
Never Eat Alone - Keith Ferrazzi
The Power of Positive Thinking – Norman Vincent Peale
Richest Man in Babylon – George Clason (also consider the audiobook during your commute)
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey
Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill
Timeless Strategies for Successful Investing – Charles Ellis

One of my favorite quotes is by Charlie Jones who said “The only difference between where you are now and where you’ll be next year are the books you read and the people you meet.” While on vacation next week I will be looking to read a few gems myself and improve my position a year from now.
