The Globe found the errors by adding up the amount of money companies said they paid executive in salary, bonus and other types of pay and then compared it to the total compensation companies reported in the same chart. In more than 50 cases, the totals didn't match. In most cases, companies they simply made an error adding the amounts or made a typo in the total. But in a few cases, companies said their original total was right, but they made an error in one of their other columns.
