Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet
The most effective iPad rivals are a pair of downsized, downpriced tablets from Amazon.com and book retailer Barnes & Noble. Amazons $199 Kindle Fire is taking heat for slow Web browsing and an inferior video screen. But it offers access to millions of books, periodicals, and videos. The Fire is now number two in tablet sales, behind the iPad.
Still, I preferred the $249 B&N Nook Tablet, for its superior data storage capacity and a rich, sharp video screen that rivals the iPad.
