Georgia tax revenues continue upswing in February

ATLANTA—Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal reports that the state's overall tax collections are on the rise for the second month in a row.

The figures released Thursday show net tax collections for the month of February totaled $765 million, an increase of $50 million or 7 percent compared to February 2011. Through eight months of fiscal year 2012, net revenue collections totaled $10.6 billion, an increase of $471 million or 4.7 percent compared to year-to-date February fiscal year 2011.

Georgia's sales tax collections totaled $412 million, up from $375 million in January 2011, an increase of $38 million or 10 percent. Income tax collections totaled more than $236 million, up from $185 million last February, for an increase of $51 million or 28 percent.
