Is it necessary to include Form 8606 every year a Roth contribution is made?

Q: For Roth IRA Contributions is it necessary to include Form 8606 every year a Roth contribution is made? —M., Leominster, Ma

The following answer was provided by Mark Misselbeck, CPA, Levine Katz Nannis & Solomon PC, Needham.

A: Yes. It tracks the amount invested in the ROTH. This is important in the event that you withdraw funds, before either 5 years have passed OR if you are under age 59 & 1/2 at the time of withdrawal, since any pay out is first from the funds put into the account, which have already had the taxes paid on them.
