Should my non-profit's treasurer be bonded if he is a CPA?

Q: I am in a non-profit organization where our treasurer is a CPA. My question is on bonding of the treasurer. Do we need to have the treasurer bonded since he is a CPA? Thanks. —Robert, Sun prairie, WI

The following answer was provided by Mark Misselbeck, CPA, Levine Katz Nannis & Solomon PC, Needham.

A: Your question is legal in nature and is better put to an attorney, however, it is never a bad idea to obtain protection against improper handling of funds, no matter how trustworthy someone appears to be.
