Can you deduct the cost of preschool?

Q: Can you deduct the cost of preschool? —Diane, Hudson

The following answer was provided by Barbara Damon, CPA, Edelstein & Company LLP.

A: The cost of preschool is not deductible, however if the child is going to preschool to enable you (and your spouse, if there is one,) to work then the expenses would qualify for the dependent care credit.
