What do I do if my deceased husband didn't sign our tax return?
My husband past away on March 27th. He hadn't signed the federal tax return to be sent in. What should I do? We had refinanced in 2003 and in that refinance we had a 2nd mortgage that we paid off. Well, come this year they sent a form 1098 and about a week later the mortgage company sent us a 1009-C form. I didn't understand what it was for. I asked a CPA through TaxAct online and he sent me form 982 and said to check the discharge of indebtness to the extent insolvent. But, I have been hesitate to send this because I am so scared basically what going to happen when the IRS see it. I hope you can understand what I am saying. Plus getting back to the passing of my husband. He went very suddenly, absolutely no warning. —Kristin, Wareham
