That’s a personal computer, in case you’ve forgotten. Personal computer sales have been sliding for over a year. The Mac is not exempt. Its sales are down nearly 8 percent, largely because existing personal computers — Windows PCs as well as Macs — are good enough for almost anybody.

Today's iMacs range in price from $1,299 to $1,999. I borrowed one of the big ones from Apple and the huge screen a delight to the eyes. Its maximum resolution is actually higher than that of a standard 1080p high-definition television
