The embattled Chicago company invented cellular technology, but has always had a hard time selling phones, as nimbler rivals rushed out better products.  But then along came Google's Android operating system for smartphones.  Motorola embraced it and built an impressive little unit called Droid.  And all of a sudden...

Still, despite the Motorola comeback, it just lost first place among American cellphone makers.  Who's number one?  You need to ask?
